a large tractor

This large tractor was used at a neighbors property recently to cut deep into the earth. This opens the ground up for easy root and water penetration.
This is such a large unit, and the subsoiler actually goes into the soild about five or six feet.
A very impressive machine to be sure.

main drag of Nipomo, Tefft street

This is the main drag of Nipomo, looking East near the Freeway 101 along Tefft street. This is the only street in town I know of that has traffic lights. We have four of them now. the one at the end of this road is the oldest, and it just blinks red and yellow. This town is wide open, friendly and really has a small town feeling, even though we are now almost 14 thousand people. (Update, Dec 2003. There must be a dozen traffic lights in town now, and the traffic is so bad it's like L.A. (well, not really, but it's not like it used to be), this town is enduring growing pains!)

a view of the Nipomo farmland

This view of the Nipomo famrland is illustrative of the rolling hills prevalent here. Nipomo means 'at the foothills' in the native Chumash language. And the hills in the back of this view are the foothills. Behind these foothills the Sierra Madre Mountain range can be found. The major crops here are citrus, avocado, canola oil, and hay. There are also some good producing vegetable farms. The last century saw exploitation of the mineral wealth, especially in the form of Jade, Silver and Mercury. Now Nipomo appears to be poised on the brink of a jump into the technology sector. A business park with high technology and information systems is expected to open in Nipomo bringing many high paying jobs to this area settled by the sons and daughters of the Chumash, Spanish and Okies.

Nipomos only mural

I admit this is not a very well done photo, the sun was in the wrong area and this mural is shaded. But is is an attractive mural that depicts the history of Nipomo. the Chumash tribe is shown, along with the early Spanish settlers, the coming of the stagecoach, and later the train. Nipomo has an interesting and diverse history, and is a pleasant town to live in.
