Agave americana
variety 'glauca'
This most beautiful of agaves displayes it's deep blue color year
'round. It can reach enormous size, so be sure to plant it where it has room to spread
it's magnificent leaves.
This photo shows the large flower stalks which this
plant puts out before it dies. They can reach twenty five feet high. The stalks themselves
are spectacular, but the plant is a bit of a pain to remove when it dies the next year. It
will generally have a score of waist high runners all around it when it is finally dead. A
backhoe is not a bad thing to have when they need to be taken out. But if done with care
it can be managed by one or two people. Long sleeved denim, gloves and safety glasses
recommended.
We sell the Blue Agave called 'Agave americana glauca'
Rooted offshoots 6 to 8 inches across: $5.00
10 to 15 inches:$10.00
Agave americana
variety 'medio-picto alba'
Well, I really should have removed the pine needles from this plant
before snapping the photo, sorry. Scattered around the plant one can see several of the
small runners putting out more plants.
The medio-picto alba has such a strange painted-on look at times, I
would not blame you if when opening the box with these plants you think that I painted the
whitish/yellowing stripes on the center of the leaves myself.
We are out of stock to sell of the medio-picto alba for now, sorry.

These photos show how spectacular and huge these Agave blooms can be.
On the left Vickie is standing by one in full bloom. Note the declining condition of the
mother plant. It will be totally dead when the seeds mature. These plants are both on the
same lot in Lompoc and were planted about fifteen years prior to this photo being taken.
This plant is very attractive with the contrast between the
greenish-blue of the centers, and the yellow leaf margins. The yellow color is actually an
abscence of chlorophyll, this makes the plants tend to grow a bit slower than the blue
agaves. Make no mistake however, these can still grow into eight foot monstors, so do not
plant them too close to the driveway or house or walkways. They really are best suited for
gardens with a bit of space.
We sell our Agave americana variegata for:
Rooted offshoots 6 to 8 inches: $5.00
Rooted offshoots 10 to 12 inches: $10.00
